Getting Past the Basics
Read Hebrews 4:14
through 7:28
Students who neglect to apply themselves are held back from higher grades.
Soldiers who do poorly in basic training have little hope for advancement
through the ranks. A lawyer who fails the bar can’t stand in a courtroom.
Employees who perform minimal service rarely make it to management positions.
Let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not
laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of
faith in God (Hebrews 6:1).
The writer of Hebrews called on believers to take hold of all that God wants to
do in their lives and to pursue His excellence.
Instead, so many Christians fail to pursue God. They accept Christ as Savior,
but go on with their lives, immersed in their own goals and dreams. Giving
little thought to God’s greater plan, they struggle with temptation and find
themselves “back to square one,” repenting at an altar. The mature believer
keeps discovering new vistas of usefulness and fulfillment in the Kingdom.
Challenge for Today: Identify compromises you are tempted to make that would
hold you back from God’s finest plan for you.
